      <image:title>Accounting and Tax Tips Blog - Budget 2025 if you’re a business owner… - Budget 2025</image:title>
<image:caption>You may be asking yourself - “The budget was announced last week, why am I only seeing your blog post today?”. Well, the truth is - it’s bleak, in my opinion. It has taken me a good few days to get to the point where I don’t just write a full on rant about the Government, and how they don’t support business owners who create employment and wider opportunities, and also do not support taxpayers as a whole. So, after that slight delay, and in a much calmer tone - here is a rundown on some of the major announcements. There are of course many more changes, given the Budget Document is 150 pages, but these are the highlights I feel you need to be aware of.</image:caption>

<image:title>Accounting and Tax Tips Blog - Should I use accounting software? - Should I use accounting software?</image:title>
<image:caption>Accounting software...what's right for me? If you want to efficiently maintain your business financial records using receipt capture technology, automated bank feeds, issue invoices digitally...and be able to see your figures at the click of a button, then cloud accounting software is the route for you Spreadsheets can serve a purpose, and have amazing customisation options, but lack the automation aspect. I'm not hating on them entirely, as deep down I love a good spreadsheet! There are many well known providers of cloud based accounting software such as Xero , Intuit QuickBooks and Sage. There are also providers who have been sat in the shadows for sometime but are having a big push recently to promote their offering, such as FreeAgent. Xero's pricing structure is changing in the coming months (hint: it's going up). If you love Xero's functionality and feel it's value for money, then you'll choose to stay with them (I use it and love it ). However, you may be tempted to look at other offerings A FreeAgent licence can be obtained for free, nada, zilch, nothing, if you bank with Mettle, NatWest or RBS. Their reps tell me they try to cater for businesses with turnover upto £1m and no more than 10 employees. QuickBooks have a great offer ending soon, with a discounted rate for 6months. If you're new to business it's a great time to get setup on cloud accounting software, and take ownership of your financials. If you're an established business, and want to migrate to another system you need to be mindful of what happens to your historic data, how any third party apps integrate with it, what the migration process looks like - how time consuming it would be, will there be downtime, telling customers to expect invoice emails from a different system, whether your payment collection host integrates, how accurate your data would be (you may enlist a professional to help you ) etc Embrace the automations of cloud based software, and let it do the 'heavy lifting' when it comes to your finances; so that you have more time to work on your business</image:caption>

<image:title>Accounting and Tax Tips Blog - Tax efficient gifts to staff - ❓️ Can I treat my employees (directors included) without incurring a tax bill?</image:title>
<image:caption>Y E S ! This message is for YOU and just in time for Christmas! HMRC say that you don’t have to pay tax on a benefit for your employee if all of the following apply: ️ it costs you £50 or less to provide (per person, inclusive of VAT) ️ it isn’t cash or a cash voucher ️ it isn’t a reward for their work or performance ️ it isn’t in the terms of their contract This is known as a ‘trivial benefit’. You don’t need to pay tax or National Insurance on it. So if you fancy treating your employees to some chocolates, or flowers, or gift cards etc...now you know not to spend more than £50 per person and it may qualify for tax relief! If you’re not sure whether a benefit counts as a trivial benefit, you know who to call MERRY CHRISTMAS ——————————————————————— My mission is to help business owners understand their numbers, and make time for what matters most to them. Spreading knowledge along the way. If this interests you, I'd love to chat. You can arrange that chat with me here ——————————————————————— * Trivial benefits should not be given so regularly that they could be considered as forming part of an employees pay package. We recommend no more than 6 of these trivial benefits per employee per 12months (directors also should not receive more than 6 of these trivial benefits in any 12month period) ** Please note that there are tax implications on any benefits that don’t meet all the aforementioned criteria. ***Correct at time of publishing, but you should always speak to your advisor before taking action to ensure the expense qualifies</image:caption>
